BORDER STAR GAZE ALBURY/WODONGA 2008

Border Stargaze is back!

ASAW is proud to announce that Border Stargaze 2008 will be held from the 28th to 31st August at The Wymah Valley Retreat formerly known as The Great Aussie Resort. The exciting news is that the retreat has undergone a major transformation. The quality and types of accommodation available have increased in addition to significant improvements to the existing facilities.

The retreat is a premier dark sky location with an average reading of 6.4 Magnitude, fantastic!!!!

Located in the Greater Hume Shire the Retreat boasts a 300 acre property with a two-kilometre frontage to Lake Hume. It is the ideal site for hosting a star party offering high standards and a variety of accommodation supported by a great management team.

Only 30km from the twin cities of Albury and Wodonga we are ideally located between Melbourne 350kms (3.5hrs), Sydney 560kms (5hrs), Canberra 310kms (3hrs) and Adelaide 764km (8hrs).

The retreat is an ideal location for individuals, families, schools or groups of any size. The amateur astronomer will enjoy excellent observing fields, and the pleasure of a wide range of facilities.

Not sure what a Star Party is?

It is a gathering of amateur astronomers and interested members of the public to discuss astronomy, compare equipment, techniques and enjoy dark sky observing and astrophotography. Star Parties may be one or two night events with larger events that can last up to a week or longer and attract hundreds or even thousands of participants. Many regional star parties are now held annually and form an important part of the astronomical calendar. The ideal location for the event is a dark sky away from light pollution.

The Border Stargaze 2008 Information Pack will contain the latest information about the event including location, how to get there, contact details, policies, what should you bring and things to know. More information such as the event program, registrations and speaker profiles will be posted or added to the information pack over the course of the next few months.
